The Sky Blues record a 0-0 draw at St. Andrew's...

17 September 2022

The Sky Blues picked up another point on the road and registered their first clean sheet of the season as they drew 0-0 to Birmingham City.

Multiple efforts from distance and the majority share of possession saw the Sky Blues dominate the first-half in a bid to pick up their first win of the season.

Attempts from either side failed to materialise and the points were shared at St. Andrews in a goalless draw, despite Gustavo Hamer's late red card.

The first chance of the afternoon fell the way of the hosts when Tahith Chong burst to the byline to cut back for a Juninho Bacuna free in the box, but he blasted his effort over the bar.

A taste of long-range goalscoring action midweek against Luton wet the appetite for Gustavo Hamer who called John Ruddy into action on four separate occasions from outside the area.

It was a first-half of long-range efforts for the Sky Blues who found themselves testing Ruddy once again from far out with Ben unleashing from range ten minutes before the half.

Bacuna starred for Blues in the opening 45 minutes and came closest to scoring for the home side, a free-kick on the stroke of half-time another added to his highlights.

HALF-TIME: Birmingham City 0-0 Sky Blues

Parallel to the first-half, Blues carved open the first chance of the second when Bacuna's whipped ball found Scott Hogan, but the City striker’s header was met by a fine save from Wilson.

The hosts came out chasing a goal to break the deadlock and applied the pressure on the Sky Blues for large spells of the match, racking up chances from set pieces.

But Mark Robins' side responded swiftly after Viktor Gyökeres broke away, jinking past Blues defenders before opening up and firing wide of the mark.

A minute from time, the Sky Blues were reduced to ten men when Gustavo Hamer was shown a straight red for an off the ball incident.
