PREVIEW: Sky Blues take on Birmingham City at St Andrew's

Sky Blues take on John Eustace's side...

16 September 2022

The Sky Blues host Birmingham City at St Andrew's in a Sky Bet Championship fixture. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the opponents...

Coming off the back of an impressive 3-2 win over local rivals West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City will welcome the Sky Blues to St Andrew's full of confidence.

Under new manager John Eustace, a Coventry City academy product who went on to make just shy of 100 appearances for the club, Blues count three wins from their opening nine games and will be out to make it three wins on the bounce this weekend.

They started their season with a draw away at Luton before turning over Huddersfield at home the following weekend.

Since then, Birmingham have fallen to defeat against Cardiff City, Wigan, Rotherham and Norwich - but did snatch a point at home to newly-relegated Watford.

Manager Quotes:

Mark Robins: "They have got a new manager, a new ethos, new players and a really decent squad, I think.

"I don't know John [Eustace] but I know that he was a player at Coventry - a good player - and I know that he has taken to coaching and management really well.

"They had a really good result last time out, in a local derby against West Bromwich Albion, and now they have another derby coming up tomorrow."

John Eustace: "We will take each game as it comes. I will have to see how many players are available as there are a lot of knocks in that dressing room.

"Jordan Graham will be touch and go for the weekend. He pulled his calf against Preston last week. He played well there but was a big miss against West Brom."

Coventry wins: 18
Draws: 19
Birmingham City wins: 24

Last Six:

West Brom 3-2 Birmingham City
Preston North End 0-1 Birmingham City
Birmingham City 1-2 Norwich City
Rotherham United 2-0 Birmingham City
Birmingham City 0-1 Wigan Athletic
Birmingham City 1-1 Watford

Graham Scott will be the man in the middle of the Sky Blues' clash with Birmingham City this weekend.

Scott will be the referee of a Sky Blues fixture for the first time since the club's 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough in March 2021.

Harry Lennard and Steve Meredith will act as his assistants with Gavin Ward as fourth official.

Ticket information:

The Sky Blues will be backed by a sold-out away following on Saturday. City sold out their full allocation of 1,900 tickets for this fixture, in the Gil Merrick Lower Stand.
