NEWS: Sky Blues International Call-Ups

Four players called-up for international duty...

22 September 2022

Ahead of the upcoming international fixtures, we take a look at where the four Sky Blues players called-up to action will be representing their respective countries.

Mark Robins had four of his players called-up for international duty, Viktor Gyökeres with Sweden, Callum Doyle with England’s Under-20s and Cian Tyler and Ryan Howley with Wales Under-21s.

All will be looking to get minutes under their belt and in some cases, make their first international appearance at the level they have been called-up for.

Viktor Gyökeres – Sweden

The Sky Blues number 17 links up with the Sweden national team for their upcoming Group B4 National League fixtures.

Sweden will be hoping to make some ground on runaway leaders Norway when they take on Slovenia and Serbia.

They currently sit third in B4 with three points from their first three fixtures, beating Slovenia and losing their other two matches in the group.

Serbia vs Sweden – Red Star Stadium – 24th September 2022, 7:45pm KO.
Sweden vs Slovenia – Friends Arena – 27th September 2022, 7:45pm KO.

Callum Doyle – England Under-20s

Callum links-up with England’s Under-20s for the first time, coming into the squad off the back of helping the Under-19s win the European Championship.

Doyle has already featured the Under-20s since joining the squad in Spain, featuring last night in a 3-0 win over Chile at the Pinatar Arena.

The centre-back played the full 90 minutes of the clash and now has two more fixtures awaiting him before returning to the Sky Blue Lodge.

England U20 vs Morocco U20 – Pinatar Arena – 24th September 2022, 5pm KO.
England U20 vs Australia U20 – Pinatar Arena – 27th September 2022, 4pm KO.

Cian Tyler and Ryan Howley – Wales Under-21s

The Sky Blues duo were celebrating their first call-up to the Wales Under-21s side, as they hope to make their debut against Austria next week.

Howley has already featured for Wales in younger age groups over the last year, whilst Tyler was part of the younger age groups during his academy days.

An international call-up for Cian marks an impressive few weeks for the Goalkeeper, after he made his debut with Hereford during his loan-spell earlier this month.

Austria U21 vs Wales U21 – Hohe Warte Stadium – 27th September 2022, 7:30pm KO.
