INTERVIEW: Michael Rose on Middlesbrough, his injury and the part fans can play

The Sky Blues defender is back in contention ahead of this weekend's fixture...

Michael Rose has no doubt that the Sky Blues fans will be behind him and his teammates as they lock horns with Middlesbrough at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday.

City will play host to Boro in their first Saturday home fixture of the season, ahead of a run of eight home games in the next 12.

Speaking to the assembled media ahead of the weekend, Rose believes recent results have given Mark Robins' side a foundation to build on.

On his injury…

"Yeah, all good. Luckily it was just a minor one, so I should be alright for this weekend if selected.

"I had a small tear in my groin. I went and got scanned and it was just a low grade tear. The international break came, probably, at the right time for it. I just rested through that and now I'm back and ready to go."

On Saturday's clash with Middlesbrough...

"We're all really looking forward to it. It's obviously the first home game on a Saturday and I'm sure it will be busy and hopefully the place is bouncing, because it's the first one on a Saturday for the fans! It's a good game to look forward to for us and a game that we need to go and stamp our authority on.

"It’s been tough for the fans but they’re outstanding, so I don’t expect anything less on Saturday. We can put pressure on ourselves but we have a very tough month coming up with a lot of home games. We need to try to capitalise on that, starting on Saturday."

On the recent results...

"The draws have given us a foundation. We looked a lot more like ourselves during the last two games, so we can build on that. Both were tough games away and we got points from them both. For us, we look at it and think that they were both good performances.

"We need to stand up now and try to do a lot better in terms of clean sheets, as we have not had enough. It is something that we can hopefully build on going forward."

On playing with summer signings Callum Doyle and Jonathan Panzo…

"They’re two young boys, especially Callum, but they’re both very good players. It just takes us time to adapt and to understand their strengths. That will come with games and hopefully we can soon settle our back line and then we can kick on from there."

On the league position…

"There’s no point looking at it. I know it's hard and some will, but we have three games in hand on some teams. We just need to focus on the next game and then, going into the World Cup, the table will hopefully look a lot healthier."

On meeting fans at The Sky Blues Tavern...

"They were raring to go, to be honest. The place was bouncing! They were singing songs and it all felt very positive. They cannot wait for Saturday and we need the place rocking, which it will be. It was a good night and I am looking forward to Saturday.

On the return of Callum O'Hare...

"It’s great to see him back on the pitch running. It gives us all a lift because he is a good player for us, but we can’t put too much pressure on him.

"A lot of people will be expecting him to come back and score goals and get assists, but we don’t need to put pressure on him, we need him to come back and start playing his game."

On working with Sky Blues assistant, Adi Viveash...

"He's helped me a lot because he's a centre-half as well. Since I've come down here from Scotland, I've learned so much from him. To be fair, the majority of my game now is probably thanks to him.

"I've learned a lot because he's just a top coach, so to have somebody like that around the building, it's just brilliant. That's why I think we'll still be fine this season, because we've got a top coach that can drag us through a difficult period of time, but for me he's been outstanding, learning a lot from him all the time and hopefully that continues."
