INTERVIEW: Ben Wilson reflects on Birmingham City draw

The Sky Blues ‘keeper played an important part in his side’s first clean sheet of the season…

Sky Blues goalkeeper Ben Wilson has praised the team spirit of his side after they won a hard-fought point against Birmingham City.

The draw also saw the Sky Blues keep their first clean sheet of the campaign, a mental boost for Wilson and his defence following a tough start to the season.

“First and foremost, a clean sheet is massive for team morale and confidence,” he said.

“We got a point on Wednesday against Luton, so we wanted to build on that and I thought it was one of our best performances of the season.

“It could’ve been out of sight early on and then second half it was a different sort of game and we had to stick in there.

“I thought we controlled the first half and they had chances from set pieces but nothing that put us under pressure. We knew they were going to come out of the blocks fast and get at us but as a whole we defended really and we could’ve gone on to win in the second half.

“Fair play to all the lads on the job we’ve done today and even when we went down to ten men we all stuck together and got the point in the end."

After waiting patiently for his chance as Simon Moore's number two, Wilson has now started five consecutive matches for the Sky Blues.

“I take each game 15 minutes at a time, and if I make a save it gives you that boost,” he continued.

“I feel good and, game by game, I’m getting more confident. I’m feeling a lot more settled after a run of matches.”
