Kasey Palmer scored for City, but the Sky Blues were unable to keep hold of their lead...

29 October 2022

The Sky Blues have fallen to a 2-1 defeat against Blackpool at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Mark Robins' side took the lead through Kasey Palmer, just before half-time, but conceded twice after the break through Gary Madine and Jerry Yates.

With the squad having been struck by illness late in the week, it took City 15 minutes to grow into game.

Blackpool enjoyed their fair share of the early chances but Jamie Allen came closest during those exchanges. The midfielder saw his effort from close-range deflect onto the post.

The visitors struck the woodwork themselves moments later but the Sky Blues survived to create more shooting chances through Ben Sheaf and Callum O'Hare, however, neither threatened the goalkeeper.

There were few chances as clear cut as the one that presented itself to Kasey Palmer just before half-time. O'Hare beat the offside trap to float behind Blackpool's back four, but his cross was fired over the bar by Palmer with the goal gaping.

However, the former Chelsea man made up for his miss moments later, when he scored a Goal of the Season contender. The midfielder received the ball from O'Hare and danced between defenders, before dropping the goalkeeper with a dummy and slotting the ball into an empty net.

Shortly after, Blackpool had the ball in the net themselves but were denied by a raised flag on the far side.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 1-0 Blackpool

Once the second half was underway, it didn't take long for Blackpool to level the game through Gary Madine. His header from inside the area looped up and over Ben Wilson.

City reacted by almost restoring the lead moments later, when some good work by Allen and Todd Kane resulted in Allen's effort skimming the outside of the post.

O'Hare, who himself was growing into the game, almost found the Sky Blues another on the hour mark. The creative midfielder received the ball from Ben Sheaf but was unable to find the top corner with his powerful effort.

But with ten minutes to go, Blackpool completed their second-half turnaround when Jerry Nates nodded home from inside the six-yard box to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

Despite efforts from Hamer and Gyokeres, City were unable to find a reply.
