Four unbeaten for City...

4 October 2022

City stretched their unbeaten run to four in the Championship, following a goalless draw at Ashton Gate against Bristol City.

The Sky Blues had the best chance of the game, when Matty Godden’s header was deflected onto the crossbar during the opening exchanges of the second half.

The draw means a third consecutive clean sheet for the Ben Wilson, as City pick up another point on the road.

The Sky Blues started the game the better of the two sides and were finding space down the left-hand-side, with Gyokeres running into the channels, creating a first opening for himself, but his shot was blocked.

Kasey Palmer was returning to his former club, and he went close from a free-kick 25-yards out, but it went inches wide of goal.

At the other end, Han-Noah Massengo was the first Robins man to try his luck, drilling a low strike past Ben Wilson’s post.

The City ‘keeper was called into action on the half-hour mark, using his feet well to deny Antoine Semenyo’s strike from around six yards out.

HALF-TIME: Bristol City 0-0 Sky Blues

Mark Robins’ men came out of the traps for the second half and were camped in the Bristol City half for the opening ten minutes.

Chances rained down on the Robins goal, with Gyokeres firing over from the edge of the area, before turning provider looking for Matty Godden, but his shot was put behind for a corner Jay Dasilva.

From the resulting corner City went closer than anyone had to opening the scoring when Palmer’s corner was met by the head of Godden, but his effort was deflected onto the crossbar and Bristol City managed to clear.

The Sky Blues continued to search for that first goal of the game and unfortunately Kasey Palmer’s strike saw the midfielder slip in the process, with the ball comfortable for Bentley to collect.

Bristol City were looking for joy down the Sky Blues right and had balls into the box which City cleared, as they kept Nigel Pearson’s side out.

City’s Swede had his best chance of the game after the hour-mark, running onto a Palmer through ball, but he was denied by a good save from Bentley.

There was a half-chance for Bristol City at the other end moments later, but Dasilva’s ball into the box had Weimann stretching, and he couldn’t direct his header towards goal.

The Robins created a chance out of nothing when Nahki Wells produced an overhead kick from the edge of the area, resulting in Ben Wilson having to tip the ball over the bar.

City introduced Tyler Walker with ten minutes remaining and the Sky Blues created a chance, with the striker feeding Gyokeres and he skipped past one, then another and fired a shot at goal, only being denied by a superb block from Rob Atkinson, in what would prove to be the final chance of the game.
