PREVIEW: Sky Blues U21s host Wigan

The young Sky Blues will play host to Wigan at The Alan Higgs Centre...

31 October 2022

Coventry City U21 v Wigan Athletic U21

1st November 2022

13:00 GMT

The young Sky Blues will play host to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday afternoon as they look to build on their 3-3 draw last time out against Peterborough United.

John Dempster's side fought hard against Posh but were forced to settle for a point, after levelling late in the game through Justin Obikwu.

The draw represented a step forward for the Under-21s, who fell to back-to-back defeats against Burnley and Sheffield United in their two fixtures prior.

However, a win over Wigan could see them climb as high as fourth in the Professional Development League.

Sky Blues U21s last six:

  • Peterborough United 3-3 Coventry City
  • Coventry City 1-3 Burnley
  • Coventry City 0-3 Sheffield United
  • Coventry City 2-0 Barnsley
  • Birmingham City 3-0 Coventry City
  • Coventry City 1-2 Sheffield Wednesday

Meet the young Latics:

Wigan U21s will arrive at the Alan Higgs Centre in fine form having stormed to victories over Hull City and Peterborough United in their last two fixtures.

Their impressive start to the season has seen them climb to third in the PDL, nine points behind runaway league leaders Sheffield United.

Josh Stones is their top scorer, having found the net five times already this season, with Badajide Adeeko having scored three.

Wigan Athletic U21s last six:

  • Hull City 1-3 Wigan Athletic
  • Wigan Athletic 2-1 Peterborough United
  • Crewe Alexandra 0-0 Wigan Athletic
  • Wigan Athletic 0-2 Burnley
  • Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Wigan Athletic
  • Wigan Athletic 0-2 Sheffield United
John Dempster's thoughts:

Looking ahead to the fixture, Sky Blues U21s coach John Dempster has said: "Wigan are always a strong outfit in the Professional Development phase.

"They'll be aggressive and they will look to attack us. They won't sit back.

"It will be a very good contest for our young players, as they continue their development."
