PREVIEW: Sky Blues U21s head to Peterborough

The young Sky Blues are back in action on Tuesday afternoon...

21 October 2022

Sky Blues U21s will take on Peterborough United on Tuesday afternoon in their next Professional Development League fixture.

John Dempster's side will head to the Idverde Training Ground for a 12pm kick-off, on the day of City's first-team clash with Rotherham United at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

They head into the game looking to bounce back from a defeat last time out, at the Alan Higgs Centre. The young Sky Blues were beaten 3-1 by Burnley, despite boasting the talents of Liam Kelly and Callum O'Hare in midfield.

That result left Coventry sixth in the Professional Development League, 13 points behind league leaders Sheffield United.

Sky Blues U21s last six:

Coventry City 1-3 Burnley

Coventry City 0-3 Sheffield United

Coventry City 2-0 Barnsley

Birmingham City 3-0 Coventry City

Coventry City 1-2 Sheffield Wednesday

Crewe Alexandra 0-2 Coventry City

John Dempster looks ahead:

"In terms of the campaign as a whole, we've lost too many games. We can be harder to beat. However, from pre-season to now, we have put in some excellent performances.

"We have been inconsistent but you get that when you're coaching and working with younger players. It is on us now to improve that as we train with them on a day-to-day basis. That is what we will aim to do now, going forwards.

"Peterborough offers us a real chance to bounce back. The games programme this season has been really strong, with lots of different challenges, tactics and personnel.

"This game will offer a brilliant challenge for the players and we have four games to go before the World Cup break. We want to attack those games and, hopefully, after that, a few of our players can go out on loan and experience men's football. That's the plan."

City's opponents:

Peterborough U21s welcome the young Sky Blues to the Idverde Training Ground having lost their last two games in the PDL (against Wigan Athletic and Hull City).

They were, however, victorious the last time they took to the field on home soil, beating Birmingham City.

They sit tied on points with Coventry in the Northern Section of the Professional Development League, but have played two games more than the Sky Blues.

Peterborough U21s last six:

Wigan Athletic 2-1 Peterborough

Hull City 4-1 Peterborough

Peterborough 3-2 Birmingham City

Barnsley 1-1 Peterborough

Peterborough 2-3 Blackburn

Peterborough 3-0 Crewe
