NEWS: Coventry City partners with Sorare to launch digital fantasy football cards of Sky Blues players

5 October 2022

  • City fans will now be able to collect, play with and trade digital cards of the Sky Blues in the Sorare game
  • Fans can also play with them in Sorare’s new competition, “Second Division Europe”
  • Partnership will expand Coventry City’s international reach and engage new fans around the world

Coventry City Football Club has today announced a new partnership with Sorare, the player-owned fantasy sports game, to launch digital trading cards of Sky Blues players.

Thanks to this partnership, City fans will for the first time be able to collect, play with and trade digital cards of players from the Sky Blues squad on Sorare. Sorare will also be launching a new competition, “Second Division Europe”, where users can exclusively compete with player cards from Coventry City and other teams in the EFL Championship, as well as other second divisions in Europe, in addition to entering them in Sorare’s global competitions.

By combining a free-to-play fantasy game with digital collectibles - underpinned by non-fungible technology to create digital scarcity for each card - Sorare brings fans closer to the game they love. Sports collectibles have long helped fans celebrate their love of football and with Sorare, Coventry City fans can now experience a new world of online fandom where they can own and manage cards of their favourite players and hone their passion for the game.

The partnership with Sorare will help the Sky Blues to grow its international reach by engaging new fans, including Sorare’s 2 million registered users, in markets across the world.

Tynan Scope, Head of Commercial at Coventry City, said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Sorare to offer Coventry City fans an exciting new way to engage with their favourite players and to help our club connect even more with football fans from around the world. We’re always looking at how strategic partnerships such as this can help us harness new technologies to enhance the fan experience and strengthen the club. Sorare’s innovative fantasy game is a great example of how online football fandom is evolving, and we’re thrilled to partner with them.”

Michael Meltzer, Head of Business Development of Sorare, said:

“Coventry City are a famous name in English football, with one of the most loyal fanbases in the country. Joining forces with the Sky Blues and other historic clubs from the EFL Championship is a major milestone for Sorare, as we focus on highlighting the quality of player talent in second divisions across Europe.

“Today’s partnership will allow Coventry City to bring their fans closer to the players they love in Sorare’s innovative fantasy game, and connect with a growing global fanbase via Sorare’s fantasy gaming community.”
