Sky Blues midfielder Gustavo Hamer shared his thoughts on the performance he "owed" the supporters as he helped his side to a 2-0 win against Stoke City.

The midfielder came back from his suspension against Sheffield United on Wednesday and came into the side to start against Stoke City.

Hamer returned with a bang, notching both a goal and assist helping his side to a 2-0 win at the bet365 Stadium.

After the game, Hamer spoke to the media and said:

On the reuslt against Stoke City...

“It’s a job done and a clean sheet away from home, so we’re happy with the win and now it’s all focus on Tuesday.

“I don't think Stoke created too many chances apart from the corner where they hit the crossbar but they definitely controlled the game in the first half, so we had to change shape which we did well and we were still working hard.

“We defended brilliantly, Kyle McFadzean a couple times and Michael Rose too, so that was really good from the defence."

On his assist for Jamie Allen...

“It was the goal from Jamie [Allen] that changed the game. It was a great run and a good finish.

“I controlled the ball and faked to go right and then went back left. At that moment [Jake] Bidwell made a great run to the side, so he took away the other centre-back and then Jamie was through and he was the only other option to pass to, so it was really good team work to create the goal.

“For me it sounds really easy but it wasn't an easy ball to play but they made it easier for me to play and I’m really happy that Jamie scored and I’m happy for the assist as well."

On his goal...

“I score goals in training but I’ve not scored a goal like that.

“I was going to the side because of the bounce pass with Kasey [Palmer] and I was trying to run past the defender but I couldn’t make it because the goalkeeper came too far. I went inside and no one blocked me and I was free to shoot.

“I always speak with the goalkeeper coach Aled [Williams] and he tells me I don’t always need to shoot with the top of my foot because the instep is strong enough, so I shot with the instep of the foot, curled it around the keeper and it went in."

On Callum O'Hare's return and their partnership...

“For us at training we already see him back and there is a difference with the power and energy he brings and you saw that today, he doesn’t stop running which is massive for us.

“The fans were very happy he’s back and I’m happy to play with him."

On his return from suspension...

“I owe the team and the fans and we all owe the fans with a couple of clean sheets in a row and they’re always there for us and of course we build confidence from their support.

“From my personal view, they deserved it and I’m happy we can give them this win."

On six clean sheets in seven...

“At the start of the season we were conceding two or three goals each match and we built the team back together, the manager spoke a lot about it.

“We’re playing as one team now and that’s important and we always try to help each other and you saw that today when we win the ball.

"In the first half no one was giving up trying to win the ball and that’s the big difference between now and the start of the season and that’s why we’ve got the six clean sheets in the past seven games."
