We take a look back at a classic meeting between the Sky Blues and Sheffield United...

On 30th April 2016, Coventry City welcomed Sheffield United to the Coventry Building Society Arena for a SkyBet League One fixture.

The Sky Blues, then managed by Tony Mowbray, boasted a star-studded squad for a third division side with Joe Cole, Stephen Hunt, Adam Armstrong and John Fleck all chosen to start against the Blades.

Marc Antoine-Fortune opened the scoring on just four minutes when Armstrong's long-range effort deflected off the big forward and bounced into the net.

City were good value for their lead and doubled their advantage on eight minutes, when Andy Rose turned home Cole's expert pass through the lines.

Sheffield United pulled one back during the second half when Billy Sharp converted from the spot, amid much confusion over why the spot kick was awarded.

But the best of the goals came when the Sky Blues found their third. Jodi Jones, then just 19, broke down the right before finding Aaron Phillips in the middle who, with a tidy flick, played Ruben Lameiras in on goal to score.

City ended the season in eighth, three points ahead of Sheffield United in 12th.

Goals: Fortune 4', Rose 8', Lameiras 87'.

Sky Blues XI: Reice Charles-Cook (GK), Aaron Martin, Jack Stephens, Romain Vincelot, Joe Cole, John Fleck, Stephen Hunt, Andy Rose (Aaron Phillips 69'), George Thomas (Jodi Jones 65'), Adam Armstrong, Marc Antoine-Fortune (Ruben Lameiras 78').

Unused subs: Corey Addai (GK), Cian Harries, Vladmir Gadzhev, Marcus Tudgay.
