ACADEMY: Under 18s beaten by Hull City

The Sky Blues took the lead but were beaten by the Tigers...

Sky Blues Under-18s fell to a 2-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon, at home to Hull City in the U18s Professional Development League.

Coventry took the lead early on through Bradley Stretton but were unable to hold on to that advantage, conceding goals either side of half-time.

The result left coach Eric Odhiambo feeling downhearted at full-time, despite a number of elements of City’s performance offering reasons to be optimistic.

“It was a disappointing result for us,” said Odhiambo. “Despite a really bright start that saw us goal a goal ahead, we come away having lost 2-1.

“Their equaliser came ten minutes after our opener and it saw them gain momentum, which was disappointing on our part as we allowed them to build that confidence.

“There were still positives, though. We won a penalty just before the break with a good bit of play, but were unable to convert, meaning we went into half-time level and knowing that we could do better.

“But shortly after the restart, we gave away a free kick which Hull City converted to make it 2-1.

“We created a number of chances throughout the second half, all while our goalkeeper remained uncalled upon, but we were unable to convert those opportunities.”

City will next be in action on Saturday, when they will take on local rivals Birmingham City on the road.
