Coventry City Under-18s were held to a 1-1 draw by Wigan Athletic on Saturday, a result described as "positive" by coach Eric Odhiambo.

Aidan Dausch scored for the Sky Blues, but his goal was not enough to send City back down the M6 with all three points.

The result came with Coventry looking to return to winning ways after falling to defeat against Crewe Alexandra and then surrendering a two-goal lead to draw with Shrewsbury Town over recent weeks.

"The performance of our young players away at Wigan was good. It was probably the best performance we've seen from them over the past few weeks," said Odhiambo.

"It was disappointing not to get the win but, at the same time, Wigan is a fixture that we have always struggled with, so to come away with a point was a decent result.

"We're on a little bit of a run now and it is about finding a way to turn these draws into victories."

Odhiambo was impressed by two of his young Sky Blues in Greater Manchester, including goalscorer Dausch.

He also praised Elliott Betjeman, who did a fine job in central midfield.

"Aidan offered gave us plenty to be happy about on Saturday," continued Odhiambo. "He is a young striker who caused Wigan a lot of problems.

"Elliott also impressed in central midfield. He did very well at retaining possession for us and he kept us ticking along in an important area of the pitch."

The young Sky Blues will next be in action against Hull City at the Alan Higgs Centre on Saturday.
