REPORT: Sky Blues 2-0 QPR

A brace from the Swede secures a two-goal win...

12 November 2022

Viktor Gyökeres grabbed his 8th and 9th goals of the season as the Sky Blues marched to a 2-0 win against Queen’s Park Rangers.

Gyökeres was a nightmare for the QPR defence who struggled to keep up with the striker all game.

The Swede bagged a goal in each half to take the Sky Blues two points off the play-offs.

The Sky Blues came out the blocks firing and created two openings in quick succession with Gustavo Hamer and Jamie Allen close to adding the finishing touches to a perfect opening five minutes.

But City did not have to wait long for their goal as Callum O’Hare worked hard to keep the ball in play before the ball fell to Gyökeres who slammed home off the crossbar to put his side ahead.

Gyökeres and O’Hare continued to be a thorn in the Hoops’ side with it becoming clear that their pace was too much- O’Hare hit the side netting as he looked to open his account for the season.

The away side looked for a response before half-time but they were limited to set-piece chances only as a result of the Sky Blues dominance.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 1-0 QPR

The second half proved to be a slow one on the chance front but the game erupted into life with 20 minutes to go when Josh Eccles had his volley blocked.

City charged forward with a swift counter-attack moments later. Hamer led the pack but the midfielder lacked that cutting edge pass to seal a sweet move.

Ben Wilson was called into action for the first time of the afternoon when he produced a spectacular save to deny Rob Dickie’s powerful long-range strike.

The Sky Blues doubled their lead ten minutes from time when O’Hare laid the ball on a plate for Gyökeres who kept his cool and slotted past Seny Dieng to grab his brace, giving his side their fourth win on the bounce.
