INTERVIEW: Jamie Allen talks Blackburn win, goal and captains armband

1 November 2022

Sky Blues midfielder Jamie Allen is looking to continue adding to his goal tally after scoring the winner against Blackburn Rovers at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Allen was on the end of a Josh Eccles cross just before the break and his goal proved to be enough to earn all three points.

The win moved City out of the bottom three, as they recorded a seventh clean sheet of the season.

Allen was also given the captain’s armband in the absence of Liam Kelly and Kyle McFadzean and speaking after the final whistle, he reflected on the victory over Blackburn.

On victory over Blackburn Rovers…

“We had to work hard for it.

“I thought first half we played really well, and we scored a really good goal and then we had to defend a bit in the second half, but we kept their chances to a minimum, so we grinded out a good win.”

Responding well from defeat to Blackpool…

“It was a great response from the lads, obviously going 1-0 up Saturday and losing the two goals was disappointing, but we went 1-0 up and responded well and didn’t concede and kept a clean sheet.”

Scoring his third goal of the season…

“I hope it continues. Hopefully I can keep getting in the right positions and keep putting the ball in the net.

“I just gambled and went near post, and it’s come straight into my path and I’ve managed to get good contact onto it and thankfully its gone into the back of the net.”

Being the captain for the night…

“I was a bit surprised to be fair, but I was happy to lead the boys out.

“I’ve been playing ok in recent games and hopefully I can carry that on and helping the team and long may it continue.”

A chance to grab a second…

“I maybe should have done better to be fair; it was a good counter attacking move and Vik found me running through and I probably should do better, but like I said I’m trying to get into those spaces and trying to get more goals.”

Keeping a clean sheet…

“We’re pleased with the clean sheet.

“We went four games in a row with clean sheets and struggled a bit in the last two games before tonight, conceding two goals in each of them, so it was good to tighten up today and that was one of our focuses.”

Moving out of the bottom three…

“Of course, it’s always nice to look at the table and not see yourselves in the bottom three, so we needed the win tonight to do that and we have done that, so we’re a happy group.”
