INTERVIEW: Jack Burroughs on Watford victory, full debut and picking up momentum

Burroughs helps City all to three points...

5 November 2022

Jack Burroughs was delighted after he helped City pick up all three points against Watford on his full debut for the Sky Blues.

Burroughs was named in the starting eleven for the first time in his Coventry career, after rising through the ranks at the club.

Jack had made seven appearances for the club before today, with those outings sandwiched between a loan spell at Scottish Premiership side, Ross County.

Speaking after the final whistle, Jack looked back on victory against the Hornets, as well as his first start for Mark Robins’ men.

Victory against Watford…

“It’s always a tough place to come to Watford, so we’re happy to come away with the three points and obviously a top performance to cap it off.

“They’re a proven Premier League team with quality players at this level and they’re very good, but it was a good challenge.

“Everyone’s buzzing and now we have to build on it heading into Tuesday’s game.”

Back-to-back wins…

“We were saying on the bench towards the end of the game, the last two teams we’ve faced have come into the games on winning runs, so to beat them both is a great achievement and gives us a lot of momentum going into the final two games before the international break.

“It was tough at the start of the season because we couldn’t build too much momentum with the games being called off, but it shows when you do get a string of games under your belt, we have the quality to compete against any team in the division and we showed that today.”

Coming in at half-time…

“We had chances but on the flip side they had some chances as well and they had a goal ruled out for offside.

“But, we came out in the second half and got the goal which was important and it proved to be the game winner so no one is complaining.”

Viktor Gyokeres scoring the winner…

“You always have a feeling he will put the ball in the back of the net, he’s a proven goal scorer in this league and he shows week in week out we can rely on him to get the goals we need.”

Making the step-up personally to the Championship…

“It’s tough, it’s a big step up from levels I’ve played at before, certainly development football, but it’s  a great experience and playing in front of the crowds and the quality of opposition we come up against so I’m really enjoying it.”

Making his full debut and when he found out…

“It’s been a few years coming, but it’s certainly one to tick off and it’s a proud moment for me and my family.

“I found out yesterday after training, the Gaffer named the team and I was surprised, I wasn’t expecting to see my name there, but I was over the moon.

“I left my dad in suspense I didn’t tell him straight away, but he was over the moon when I told him.”

Chat with the Gaffer in pre-season…

“I spoke to the Gaffer in pre-season and said that I would like to stay around this season and try and force my way into the team.

“I knew when I get an opportunity, I have to make the most of it because then he (Mark Robins) gets the trust in you to do it week in week out and hopefully I’ve got hat trust, or I’m starting to gain that trust that I can do it on a regular basis this season now.”
