The Sky Blues Under-18s were held to a 2-2 draw by Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday morning.
Callum Perry and Charlie Manners were on target for the young Sky Blues, either side of two quick-fire goals for Wednesday.
"In the first half, we were pleased with our work out of possession as we defended resolutely," said coach Eric Odhiambo.
"We got to half-time with a clean sheet, which we haven’t done for a while, and in the second half we wanted to pose more of an attacking threat.
"However, as a result, the game opened up a bit and we took the lead through a well-taken Callum Perry penalty after Aiden Dausch was bought down running onto a through ball into the area.
"The boys then showed good character in the final moments of the game to get an equaliser through substitute Charlie Manners, after Sheffield Wednesday had scored two to take the lead.
"Although not the result we wanted, the character showed is something we’ll need to draw on going into next week's fixture against Premier League Southampton in the FA Youth Cup, which we’re all now looking forward to."
