PUSB: 'From The Board' versus Huddersfield Town

4 May 2022

After each matchday programme this season, we publish the regular column from the Coventry City board on our website. You can read Coventry City Chief Executive Dave Boddy's column from our game against Huddersfield Town below:

Good afternoon and welcome to the Coventry Building Society Arena for today’s game as we face Huddersfield Town in our final home game of the season.

I would also like to welcome the players, staff, officials and supporters who join us today from Huddersfield.

Today brings the curtain down for football here at the Coventry Building Society Arena in what has been a momentous season for Coventry City Football Club. Following the announcement back in March 2021 that we would be returning after a 2-year exile at St Andrew’s, the supporters purchased Season Tickets in huge numbers for our return to Coventry and the return of fans to stadiums, with 11,555 being sold eventually – a record total since 1969.

Our current average attendance 19,300, which is currently the best since the 2006/07 season, and support for the Club this season has been absolutely phenomenal, both home and away, with the atmosphere generated within stadiums being something that I have been proud of.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all Sky Blues fans for the part have paid this season, and looking ahead to 22/23 with Season Ticket sales already at 10,700 and an extended Early Bird deadline, things are already starting to look exciting for next season.

On the field, we have surpassed all expectations and are currently heading for top-half of the table finish, a remarkable feat considering that we were playing League Two football just four years ago.

I would like to thank Mark Robins, Adi Viveash and all of the football staff and all of the players for delivering an exciting and sometimes thrilling brand of football, which has brought so many great moments for us to enjoy, and we are already looking forward and planning for the 22/23 campaign.

I would also like to thank Wasps, ACL and all of their staff, who have made the transition back into the Arena easy for everyone at the Football Club, as our relationship continues to grow and this bodes well for the future. In particular I would like to thank their Operations Director Sarah Roberts, who has been outstanding in delivering our matchday experience and requirements.

We are grateful to BoyleSports, XL Motors, Hummel, Jewson, G&R Scaffolding, Genesis Employment, Coventry Building Society, Shortland Horne and Moseley Signs, and all of our major partners for their continued support of the Football Club.

I would personally like to thank all of the staff here at the Football Club for their hard work, dedication and loyalty over a long period of time. In particular, I would like to pay special thanks to Shelagh Brock, our Head of Ticketing, who is leaving us after many years. Shelagh will be known to lots of supporters as the face of our ticketing operation and she has been instrumental in delivering our new ticketing platforms from the stadium this season. Everybody at the Sky Blues would like to wish her the best of luck for the future.

As always enjoy today’s game and it remains for me to wish you an enjoyable summer and I look forward to seeing you all again when the season kicks off again in late July.

PUSB, Dave
