Sky Blues midfielder Gustavo Hamer spoke to the press following yesterday’s 2-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Harry Toffolo’s impressive long-range strike into the far corner of the net, plus Faustino Anjorin’s penalty, were enough to earn the visitors the victory despite a late goal for Viktor Gyökeres.
Following the contest, Hamer reviewed the goals and City’s performance in the last home game of the season.
“[Toffolo] shoots it top bins with his right foot as a left-footer, that’s amazing and probably one of the best goals from him this season,” Hamer reflected.
“Then you go into the dressing room 1-0 down and you have to change your play.
“When you’re 2-0 down you’re then forcing it even more. With a great bit of play we created the goal for Viktor.
“We tried to force it and tried to keep going because you want to win the last home game of the season, especially for the fans.
“Again today, the way they supported us, they were always there for us, so we wanted to win.
“We came back in the 90th minute to make it 2-1 but by then it’s too late.”
With an incredible 23,828 in attendance yesterday, the Sky Blues players took a lap of the pitch to thank the fans for their support this season following the game. While talking to the press, Hamer also took the opportunity to thank the City fans once again.
“They are amazing; we had a little walk around the pitch and we waited at the big crowd in the corner who always sing.
“I think they thanked us today with the singing and we thanked them by waiting there a little bit longer and having some chats, doing some signings and taking a couple of pictures. That was good.
“I think it’s amazing to speak with them, to see them singing my song – you can’t describe how it feels.
“It’s just amazing that they recognise you, and you know what you’re doing it for when you see them every week.”
Next up for the Sky Blues is a trip to Stoke City next weekend, and Hamer emphasised his desire to finish the season on a high.
“I think if you win that game then you’re doing an amazing job at the end of the season.
“Winning the last game of the season is the best feeling going into the holiday, so we’ll give everything.”
