A look back at City in August 2021...

12 May 2022

Following the end of the 2021/22 season we take a look back at each month in photos...

City started the month by making their return to Coventry and the newly named Coventry Building Society Arena, as they entertained Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in a pre-season friendly.

City would lose the game 2-1, with Martyn Waghorn scoring from the spot, as they turned their attentions to the first game of the season against Nottingham Forest a week later.

The Forest fixture saw the visitors take the lead in the first half through striker Lyle Taylor, leaving City with a job to do heading into the second half.

After knocking on the door, the final ten minutes saw goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Kyle McFadzean complete the turnaround, with Fadz scoring the winner deep into injury time.

Next up for City was a Carabao Cup defeat to Northampton Town and a 1-0 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell, before bouncing back with a 1-0 win away against Blackpool, with Gyokeres on the scoresheet again.

Mark Robins side followed-up their victory against the Tangerines with another three points at home to Reading, which told a similiar story to that of the Nottingham Forest game.

City fell behind to a John Swift penalty before a second half fightback, which saw Jamie Allen come off the bench to volley home the equalsier and then Matty Godden popping up with a last minute winner to send the home fans wild.

The month would ultimately end with a 2-0 defeat away at Queens Park Rangers at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
