After each matchday programme this season, we publish the regular column from the Coventry City board on our website. You can read Coventry City Chief Executive Dave Boddy's column from our game against Hull City below:
Good evening and welcome to the Coventry Building Society Arena as we face Hull City tonight.
I would also like to welcome the players, staff, officials and supporters who join us here from Hull.
On Saturday morning I received a call from Mark Robins, which I knew was ominous because we never speak on matchday before or after a game unless there’s a problem. Mark informed me that both he and Adi had tested positive for COVID. After numerous discussions, we all felt that neither should attend the game and that first-team coach Dennis Lawrence would take charge of the game, ably assisted by head of goalkeeping Aled Williams and Under 23s coach Luke Tisdale.
I think most would agree that Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Sheffield United, previously unbeaten in eight, was an outstanding performance and result, and I would like to thank Dennis and the team for stepping in and doing such an admirable job. This is testament to the quality of the backroom team that we have built here at the Sky Blues on our journey.
Saturday was also our Legends Day, which is always a great occasion. Once again, we filled the Premier Lounge with over 600 diners, which included nearly 50 former players. I managed to spend some time up there during the afternoon and it was wonderful to see and to chat to many former players and old friends of the Club. I was one of many speakers during the afternoon and there was a fantastic atmosphere in the room, culminating in the former players getting the wonderful ovation that they deserve on the pitch at half-time. I would like to say again thank you to the Former Players Association for the work they did in organising the day in partnership with the Club, and also Suzette Johnson from our commercial department who worked tirelessly to make the event a success.
By the time you read these notes, the 2022/23 Season Tickets and Premium Memberships will have been on sale for just over a week. At the time of writing on Tuesday morning, we have already surpassed the 2000 milestone of sales, which is fantastic at this early stage and bodes well in our ambition to surpass this season’s total of 11,555. As a reminder for fans, the existing 21/22 Season Ticket holders have until 5:30pm on 19th April to renew their current seat and the Early Bird deadline is on Monday 25th April at Midnight.
I would like to congratulate our Under 18s for reaching the final of the Premier League Development Cup, after beating Charlton Athletic 1-0 at the Alan Higgs Centre on Saturday afternoon. Like ourselves in the Northern section, the Addicks topped the Southern section of the Under 18s league and it was a great result to come out victorious. They now can look forward to playing the in the Final against Ipswich Town at Portman Road, having been drawn away. Congratulations to Dan Bolas, John Dempster and all of the Academy staff – the result is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Thanks for your support, enjoy tonight’s game and as always PUSB.
