INTERVIEW: Jake Clarke-Salter Luton Reaction

The defender looks back on yesterday's defeat...

Sky Blues defender Jake Clarke-Salter reflected on yesterday’s performance following a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Luton Town.

Elijah Adebayo’s strike shortly before half-time ensured that Luton took the three points in the SkyBet Championship contest, however Clarke-Salter praised the Sky Blues’ performance at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

“I thought we played pretty decent to be honest,” Clarke-Salter affirmed.

“We’re bitterly disappointed to lose, I think that we should have got something out of the game, but that’s football.

“We have to keep going, keep the togetherness and all focus is now on the next game.

“We could have defended the goal better as a team, but we need to take the positives out of the performance.

“I thought we were pretty decent, a lot better than against Swansea, so we just need to keep that focus to progress and hopefully get a result on Saturday.”

The 24-year-old also highlighted the depth and togetherness of the squad whenever line-ups are rotated to suit different fixtures.

“We’ve got players that can come in if other people are not available, and today we were the better team so we just need to take our chances and defend a little bit better at times. Then it could have been a different result.

“All of us want to start, all of us want to play, but we’re a supportive bunch and whoever on the day is out of the team I’m sure will support each other.

“We’ve just got to do the business on the pitch, that’s the main thing for whoever’s picked.”

Moreover, Clarke-Salter reflected on City’s choice to field three strikers in last night’s midweek contest, as well as his own search for a goal.

“I thought it worked well; they linked up very well, especially early on when we had quite a few chances.

“On another day we score, so we just need to keep working and improving as Saturday is just around the corner.

“I need to score; I’m due a goal to be honest.

“I think I must be one of the only people who haven’t scored, so that’s a personal target for me to try and get a few goals before the end of the season. But the main thing is to get a few more clean sheets and a few more results.”

Next up for Jake Clarke-Salter’s side is the visit of Sheffield United to the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday.
