Sky Blues boss Mark Robins has provided an injury update on missing duo Martyn Waghorn and Kasey Palmer.

The pair were absent on Saturday afternoon as Robins' side beat Portsmouth at Fratton Park to end their pre-season schedule on a high.

They did so thanks to second-half goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Jonathan Panzo, while goalkeepers Simon Moore and Ben Wilson both kept clean sheets during their shared time on the field.

Waghorn and Palmer, who both picked up knocks against Walsall on Tuesday evening, were instead at The Sky Blues Lodge where have been pushing to return to full fitness ahead of Sunday's season opener against Sunderland.

And their manager has now provideded a positive update on their progress.

"Martyn is fine. He is getting better and he feels okay," he said.

"It was precautionary [that he was left out]. He did not train on Friday so he was always going to be left out on Saturday.

"He was at The Sky Blue Lodge on Saturday morning and he will be in again on Monday morning, maybe to train, we'll just have to wait and see.

"Likewise, Kasey will not be too long. It will be days rather than weeks until he is ready. We will see."

On the absense of defender Todd Kane, Robins added: "Todd did not travel. I wanted to bring the squad that I brought.

"We had enough, in terms of what we wanted to do. We had Jack Burroughs who gave us something slightly different.

"The situation may develop where Todd looks to play his football elsewhere."
