The defender will spend the 2022/23 season with Coventry City…

Sky Blues new-boy Jonathan Panzo says he will be using his loan stay to help the club to push as high up the Championship order as possible.

The 21-year-old defender, who played under Coventry City assistant manager Adi Viveash while at Chelsea, will spent the entire 2022/23 season with the club.

He joins having faced City during a pre-season friendly in Spain, during which he turned out for parent club Nottingham Forest.

Speaking in his first interview as a Coventry City player, and after training with his teammates for the first time, Panzo revealed his delight at having finalised the move.

"Obviously, it’s been a while, but the deal is done and I’m here now," he told ccfc.co.uk.

"It was the coaches and the way that they want to play that has attracted me to the club. I want to be involved in that and to help them to where they want to be.

"The manager has told me to just be myself and to express myself, and to do what I have to do to help the team get to where they need to be.

"For me, this loan is just about getting experience and playing at the highest level I can. And playing in this team is just a bonus as well," he continued.

"My first target is to play as many games as I can. And then, obviously, aim for those play-offs and get promotion with the team, and to be as rock-solid at the back as I can."

Panzo, who describes himself as a front-footed defender who likes to get on the ball, has joined up with a Coventry side who are already four games into their preseason.

But the London-born defender is also well on his way to being match ready, having twice turned out for Forest ahead of the new season.

"I’m two weeks into my preseason now. I played, of course, against Coventry for Forest and then against Burton, where I got half an hour. It’s been good so far,” he added.

"It was a good session today too. I knew some of the lads from the Chelsea days, such as Fankaty Dabo and Todd Kane. They are older than me, but they were players that I really looked up to at Chelsea.

"It’s been good so far and I’m just looking forward to playing now."
