MISSING MEN: Sky Blues 2-1 Stoke City - 2018

Can you remember the missing men from this memorable win against the Potters…

25 January 2022

Ahead of City’s clash with Michael O’Neill’s Stoke City at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the Sky Bet Championship today, we take a trip down memory lane and remember a famous victory against our opponents…

This week’s edition takes us back to the Sky Blues’ last home win over the Staffordshire side, when Mark Robins welcomed the then Premier League side to CV6 for a FA Cup Third Round match in January 2018.

City were in good form heading into the match, having won four of their five games over Christmas, mean whilst Mark Hughes’ side were firmly in a relegation battle having lost to fellow strugglers Newcastle United last time out.

The first real chance of the game saw Mame Biram Diouf have an effort cleared off the line however it was the hosts that took the lead when a corner was headed back across goal and powerfully headed past Jack Butland!

The Sky Blues were denied a second when Geoff Cameron had to clear a deflected shot off the line, but they went into half time with the lead.

However, the Potters equalised nine minutes into the second half when Ramadan Sobhi was brought down in the box with Charlie Adam drawing the tie level from the spot.

But City weren’t done yet and with 68 minutes on the clock the ball was played out wide to the full back who cut inside and fired into the near corner to send Mark Robins’ side into Round Four!

However, what we want to know is how well do you remember the Sky Blues side from that day, can you name the starting eleven and the substitutes?
