NEWS: Sky Blues to hold #HerGameToo match on 8th March - IWD2022

28 February 2022

Coventry City will be marking International Women’s Day 2022 by supporting #HerGameToo with a dedicated matchday to the campaign.

The Sky Blues face Luton Town on Tuesday 8th March at the Coventry Building Society Arena – the date of IWD2022.

Coventry City announced its new partnership with the #HerGameToo campaign last month, with the first female-only fans forum being held in February. Now, the Sky Blues will further show their support for the campaign with this matchday dedicated to the campaign and celebrating female supporters.

The non-profit organisation aims to create awareness, educate, research, develop a strong sense of community and create strong relationships with clubs. Further aims include creating strong relationships with club trusts and communities, having a presence at stadiums to build a more welcoming environment for young girls and women as well as continuing to campaign against sexism in football and online abuse.

The City squad will proudly wear #HerGameToo warm-up t-shirts ahead of kick-off against Luton Town, emphasising the Club’s support for the campaign.

The matchday programme will proudly show female supporters on the front, celebrating and highlighting some of our female fans, while also including information about #HerGameToo inside as well, plus Coventry City Girls FC and women at Coventry City.

The matchday scoreboard will be showing photos of female supporters throughout the half-time period to celebrate our female Coventry City fans – send in your photos to matchday@ccfc.co.uk as well as on Twitter by Midday on 7th March to be included.

There will also be a female matchday playlist pre-match too.

Our social media channels will also be supporting the campaign, while Coventry City Girls FC will be providing ball girls for the fixture too as well and waving flags as the two teams come out.

Our match sponsor for the fixture is XL Motors. 21% of the XL Motors workforce is female, in an industry where traditionally that has not been the case. They will be supporting the day too, inviting female members of staff to enjoy the hospitality as part of their match sponsorship and to be on the pitch for the coin toss pre-match.

Coventry City Chief Executive Dave Boddy said:

“We are delighted to announce details of our #HerGameToo match, on International Women’s Day when we face Luton Town.

“Female supporters, members of staff and volunteers make a huge contribution to Coventry City, and we are looking forward to be celebrating them in this way on 8th March.

“Matches should be safe, welcoming and enjoyable for all of our female supporters, and we continue to work to make it that way.”
