Sky Blues manager Mark Robins has confirmed that Callum O'Hare is set to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury.
The midfielder, who had only recently returned from an unrelated hamstring injury, sustained the blow early on against Sheffield United on Boxing Day.
He is now expected to miss the remainder of the 2022/23 season.
“It’s really bad news," Sky Blues boss Mark Robins has said.
"There’s some damage in the knee and that needs repairing, so we’ve got a date set for him to have surgery.
“It’s a massive blow for Callum. We all feel for him as a colleague, because he’s such a great kid and he lives for football, and that’s something that’s been sadly taken away for what could be the next nine months.
"We’re hopeful we can get him in quickly and he can start his recovery, it’s a huge blow, very, very sad."
