INTERVIEW: Michael Rose on Cardiff City draw and clean sheet

The Sky Blues defender played his part as his side kept yet another clean sheet in the Championship...

29 December 2022

Sky Blues defender Michael Rose has admitted his frustration that his side were unable to break down Cardiff City in their final fixture of 2022.

Mark Robins' side were held to a goalless draw at the Coventry Building Society Arena, despite dominating the bulk of the play on home soil.

They were instead left rueing missed opportunities as their 2022 ended with a goalless tie.

Speaking to the media after the game, Rose said:

On the match…

"It was a frustrating one, especially in the final third. In the end, it’s a good clean sheet.

"I thought they were alright in the first twenty minutes, but as the game went on, we started controlling it, and playing the game we can play.

"We just didn’t have that final bit to finish them off."

"They sat in, really deep, and allowed us to have the ball. We tried breaking them down but, in the end, we couldn’t.

"Maybe we could have gotten something from a set-play. Toddy [Kane] came on and did really well, put some good balls in the middle for people to come across the front to get a touch, but we didn’t have any of that tonight."

On yet another clean sheet...

"It was a lot easier for us at the back during the second half but, to be fair, we were always thinking of the other side because that’s the way they were set up: to counter-attack us.

"We needed to make sure we looked at that when we were attacking and playing well.

"It was good from us on that side of things. I don’t think Ben [Wilson] had that much to do, we now need to focus on the other side."

On the news of Callum O’Hare’s injury…

"I have not been able to speak to him yet because he only got the news today.

"Everyone is devastated because he is a top player and we will miss him a lot.

"Hopefully, he can get it fixed, and I am sure he will because he has got that type of attitude.

"He will be back doing what he does best, playing football.”

On his highlights of 2022...

“There has been a lot! For me, Fulham away was probably the highlight. That was really good for me because I scored and we won. They were a really good team.

"There has been a lot, to be honest. Maybe Birmingham away too, because I scored that game and my dad was in the crowd to see it!

"There have been a lot of memories, especially when we got the fans back."
