INTERVIEW: Mark Robins reflects on Cardiff City draw, his side's final fixture of 2022

The Sky Blues were held to a point in their final home game of 2022 by Cardiff City...

Mark Robins has shared his thoughts on the game that saw the Sky Blues held to a goalless draw by a resilient Cardiff City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The Sky Blues performed well against the Bluebirds but were unable to make it count as they were left to rue missed chances.

Speaking after the game, Robins shared his thoughts on the draw, City's final result of 2022:

On the performance against Cardiff City...

"I think it was clear that they set up to frustrate us and that’s been the story of their last few games.

"They set up to take a point and they’ve done it which is really disappointing for us.

"We didn’t get any space or room and it was a really niggly game where they were going down at every opportunity to slow things down and the rhythm wasn’t there.

"If you can’t win then don’t lose, and we avoided that in a tricky game. We were trying to attack and score, and then you end up with gaps and they’ll exploit them. We didn’t have that killer touch.

"We almost scored with a couple of good chances, and a decent opportunity in the first half, but it was hard to find some space to break them down on a really difficult pitch.

"We had some good chances, some balls into the box, and decent moves. We were moving the ball but they were sat behind it, and it can become difficult."

On the recovery process ahead of the City's next outing, on New Year's Day...

"That was the last game of this year tonight and we’ve taken a point in a tough game: that’s four points against Cardiff this year. We have to take that, move on and prepare well for Bristol City.

"I think two days of recovery is difficult and we’ve got to do that to go into the New Year’s Day game.

"We’ve got to try and recover really well, but it’s difficult to do that in two days."

On Fankaty Dabo and Kasey Palmer and the substitutes' contributions...

"The positives were that Fankaty [Dabo] has come into the side for an hour and Kasey Palmer has played his second game in two days, when he hasn’t done that in a long time!

"There were some decent cameo performances: Todd Kane came on and did well on the right-hand side and [Martyn] Waghorn came on to try and link things up with Viktor [Gyökeres] to try and take the weight off him."
