INTERVIEW: Ben Sheaf previews this weekend's clash with Swansea

16 December 2022

City midfielder Ben Sheaf is looking to take the positives from last weekend’s result against Reading into tomorrow’s clash with Swansea City.

The Sky Blues return to the Coventry Building Society Arena for the first time since mid-November, when they ended the month with three consecutive wins at the CBS.

Russell Martin’s Swansea will be the visitors come 3pm on Saturday afternoon, with the Swans heading into the game a point above City.

Sheaf is looking to get back to winning ways tomorrow but is well aware of the threat Swansea possess.

Facing Swansea…

“Everyone is aware of what Swansea are about and their philosophy and style of play and we’ve looked at that.

“However, at the same time, we’re going to look to impose our game on them and we don’t want them to have too much of the ball especially being at home.

“We will be well prepared for the game and ready to put in a good performance and to try and get a good result.”

Last weekend’s result…

“It was good to be back out there, but it wasn’t the result we wanted, although there were some positives in the performance that we can take into this weekend.

“We weren’t able to play a friendly game during the break because of the lack of bodies, so I thought we did well considering and it was a good performance just not the result we wanted.”

World Cup break…

“It has been strange. In some ways it was nice to have a break, but we were on such a good run of form, it probably came at the wrong time for us.

“It’s behind us now and we’re looking ahead to the rest of the season and getting back to that form we had before the break.”

Playing at home…

“In the last few home games, the atmosphere has been incredible and we’re really looking forward to getting back there tomorrow and making the most of the home advantage.

“Training has been good this week and we have forgotten about last weekends defeat to Reading and we’re just looking at this weekend and getting three points.”

Scoring more goals…

“Everyone should be chipping in with goals, we can’t just rely on Viktor Gyokeres and the other strikers.

“The goals have to come from other areas, including myself and the other midfielders and defenders and I’m sure if we keep creating chances some will go in.

“I have a few chances from range in games and hopefully one of them can go in soon and I can start contributing and helping the team and take the pressure off of Vik.”
