CLASSICS: Sky Blues 3-1 Bristol City

Sky Blues pick up big win back in 2021...

31 December 2022

Mark Robins side picked up three valuable points against Bristol City in the 2020/21 season, as they retained their Championship status.

The Sky Blues started on the front foot and took the lead in the ninth minute when Sam McCallum’s throw in found Tyler Walker and although the forward’s shot was blocked, the ball fell to Leo Ostigard who fired in from the edge of the area.

After the break it was the visitors who created the first big chance when Kasey Palmer’s cross almost found Han-Noah Massengo at the back post.

However, the Robins were left to rue their missed opportunity as Tomas Kalas brought down Walker in the area and the referee pointed to the spot, with Matty Godden stepping up to score from the spot.

The visitors pulled one back when Nakhi Wells intercepted Kyle McFadzean’s back pass and halved the deficit.

But then, with three minutes remaining Callum O’Hare managed to pick out substitute Viktor Gyökeres who calmly finished past Bentley to seal three vital points for City.
