INTERVIEW: Matty Godden talks Hull City frustration

Matty added to his tally for the season in the defeat...

Sky Blues striker Matty Godden spoke of his frustration after defeat against Hull City at the MKM Stadium.

The striker was on the scoresheet twice, but his goals could do nothing to prevent City slipping to a 3-2 defeat against the Tigers.

Godden believes the goals conceded were soft, and that he and his teammates can have no excuses following the full-time whistle.

“The first goal was a soft goal.” Godden said. "I thought we grew into the game after that, and we looked in the ascendency and we took the game to them and moved the ball a lot quicker.

“We then got the equaliser, but we then give away another cheap goal five minutes later and it puts us on the back foot again.

“I think from our point of view it’s another soft goal for the third but then we get another one and at 3-2 you’re hoping we do what we do, and we could nick a late goal.

“We looked a threat and if anyone was going to score another, it looked like it was going to be us, but we just ran out of time at the end.”

It was the Sky Blues' first game for two weeks, after games against Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic were postponed due to the ongoing work at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The striker spoke of the challenge of getting into a rhythm, with the lack of games, but with three games in the space of a week, City are looking to bounce back.

“It’s been frustrating, and you can’t hide behind that because you can’t get into a rhythm but that’s no excuse about what happened today," he added.

“It’s going to take little bit to get up to the same speed as everyone else, but we have three games in a week now and if we’re going to get closer, we need to be better than what we were today.

“We have no excuses now; we have a good week of games and our season really started today.”
