Ahead of the meeting between the Sky Blues and Hull City, we take a look back at a classic match from the past...

On February 24th 1973, Coventry welcomed Hull City to Highfield Road for a FA Cup fifth round clash.

The Sky Blues were 13th in their fifth consecutive season in the top division when the two sides met, while the Tigers were placed 13th in the second division.

Hull fans will have been dreaming of a cup upset enroute to City's old famous stadium - one year on from beating Noel Cantwell's side on Humberside - but Coventry were ahead after just 17 minutes through Brian Alderson.

It was Alderson who stood out from the pack as he, after being set up by Tommy Hutchison from the opener, turned provider to cross from Colin Stein to double his side's advantage just moments later.

And with Hull now pushing on in search of a route back into the game, Coventry punished them on the counter to make it 3-0, with a goal coming once again through Stein.

The Tigers were out of the cup, while the Sky Blues would progress all the way to the Quater Finals where they were beaten by Wolves at Molineux.

Goal(s): Brian Alderson, Colin Stein (2).

Sky Blues XI: Bill Glazier, Mick Coop, Bobby Parker, Wilf Smith, Chris Cattlin, Roy Barry, Willie Carr, Tommy Hutchison, Dennis Mortimer, Colin Stein, Brian Alderson.
