INTERVIEW: Mark Robins Fulham Preview

Tough test expected at Craven Cottage...

9 April 2022

Sky Blues manager Mark Robins is relishing the upcoming challenge and shared his excitement ahead of the trip to Fulham and the remainder of the season.

Above all else, Mark Robins reflected on the performances of the Sky Blues across the season until now and what his side need to do to progress to the next level.

The City manager was pleased with the position his team are in after the great opening to the campaign, but also the footballing displays he’s seen in recent weeks, despite the shortcoming in points.

“We’ve got to be positive with where we’re at, we’re still relatively ahead of the curve in terms of what we did last season.” Robins stated.

“Certainly the points we got at the start of the season were significant and latterly the points haven’t been there but the football has been excellent.

“The belief is still there and some of the football we play is outstanding, very brave, very courageous and we’ve got to keep doing that and we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves as this division is a very tough decision that changes season on season and we’re mindful of that.

“We want to pick up as many points as we can going into the last six games to get to 60 points as quick as we can and I’m saying that on the back of playing a top team in our division in Nottingham Forest. We have nothing to lose, so we’ve got to go for it as we normally do.”

This weekend’s opponents, Fulham, are on the cusp of promotion back to the Premier League.

Robins revealed the Cottagers iexpected promotion is not within his thoughts, but does concede a tough test lies ahead.

“When we were looking at the fixture list at the start of the season, we were hoping we’d done as well as we had by now, or better, because the last six fixtures were really tough, but they’re great games.

“We’re coming up against a really top team on Sunday and it’s how we can play against them and create on their patch and it’s a game to look forward to.

“They’re a good side, they were unbelievable earlier in the season scoring seven goals, six goals, they’re just kept going and with Mitrovic up-front, he’s a real threat, and even Carvalho in behind, he’s really turned things on and it looks like he’s going to Liverpool.

“You can go through the whole team and you can say they are the best team in the division by some distance really, but it’s a brilliant challenge for everybody and it’s a place to go and enjoy and hopefully we can have a really good day.”
