Sky Blues midfielder Josh Eccles made his return to action yesterday as the Under-23s took on Cardiff City at the Alan Higgs Centre.
Josh started the game, which saw him earn his first minutes since City’s FA Cup tie with Southampton back in February.
The Sky Blues unfortunately couldn’t pick up three points against Cardiff in Eccles’ return game and he spoke of his disappointment following the full-time whistle.
“We had a few trialists and a few people coming back from injury and a few people coming back from Covid, so it was probably more about everyone getting minutes.
“But I still think we could’ve done better and it’s devastating to lose the game 2-1 because the boys know we can do better.”
Eccles has been on the sidelines recovering from injury and after almost three months out, the midfielder played 60 minutes against the Bluebirds and he spoke of his pleasure at pulling the shirt back on.
“It’s definitely good to be back.” Eccles said.
“Obviously, I’ve had two pretty long serious injuries this season so it’s good to get some minutes after 12 weeks out and now I just want to kick on for the last few games of the season.”
It’s the second time that Josh has suffered a lengthy injury this season, after picking up a knock in pre-season which curtailed his momentum.
Then, with the midfielder breaking into the first team following the turn of the New Year, his second injury came just at the wrong time.
“I managed to get my way in to the first team and I played three games on the bounce and I think that is when got the other injury.
“It was devastating at the time and since then I’ve just had to work hard to sort it out and get back before the season ends.
“Hopefully I can get back in before the season ends, I’ll just work hard in training and getting 60 minutes in the Under-23s is going to help.”
