A highest league finish since 2006 is in sight for Coventry City as they welcome Huddersfield for the final home game of the Championship campaign on Saturday afternoon.
Mark Robins’ men have already matched their points tally from the 2005/06 season when they finished eighth and they will be hoping to cement a top half finish this term with three points against a Huddersfield side who are already guaranteed at least a place in the play-offs.
You have to go back to March 1971 to find the last time the Sky Blues were beaten by the Terriers and the hosts have been chalked up as 7/5 favourites to take all three points from their penultimate fixture this season, while three of the previous four victories at the CBS Arena have come via a 1-0 scoreline and that is the most popular correct score bet at 13/2.
Coventry grabbed a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in December thanks to an injury time goal from Matt Godden, one of a flurry of goals this season that have arrived after the 90-minute mark. It may pay therefore to watch until the last kick and no side in the whole division can better Coventry’s haul of 26 points after conceding first, so the comeback theme isn’t far from punters’ minds and there is an attractive 4/1 on offer for Coventry to win and both teams to score.
Callum O’Hare has been responsible for the two last gasp goals this month against Birmingham and Fulham and seven of his twelve goal contributions this season have come in the last nine matches. He has also scored four goals across the last three Sky Blues victories and he has been clipped into 9/4 from 3/1 to add to his tally as he becomes ever more popular in the goalscorer betting.
Viktor Gyokeres has fifteen goals to his name this season and is 9/2 to break the deadlock, but O’Hare is tucked in behind at 13/2 as one of the most likely candidates among the hosts to score the first goal of the game.
7/5 Coventry to win
6/4 Gyokeres to score anytime
9/4 O’Hare to score anytime
3/1 Coventry to win by one goal
4/1 Coventry to win & both teams to score
9/2 Gyokeres to score first
13/2 O’Hare to score first
