UNDER-23S: QPR 0-3 Sky Blues

City continue their winning start...

21 September 2021

The Sky Blues Under-23s continued their winning start to the Professional Development League with victory against Queens Park Rangers.

A brace for Liam Kelly and a 4th goal of the season in the PDL for Fabio Tavares sealed the points and kept the Sky Blues at the top of the Northern division.

After a cagey start to proceedings, it was the Sky Blues who took the lead, and it was captain Liam Kelly who caught the QPR ‘keeper out with a quick free-kick to find the back of the net.

The hosts almost found a leveler on the half-hour mark, but their striker could only head wide from a corner.

City reacted to the R’s attack, and they nearly doubled their lead when Josh Reid’s corner was met by Jodi Jones on the volley and his effort went inches past the post.

HALF-TIME: QPR 0-1 Sky Blues

After the restart Reid who had looked to be provider for Jones in the first half had a chance to find the net himself, but his header went over the bar.

QPR had their best chance of the game when they saw an effort come back off the woodwork, a chance they would later be left to rue, as Luke Tisdale’s side would take the game away from them in the final half-hour.

Firstly, a chance for Bright Enobakhare saw the attacker win the ball on the half-way line and work his way into the box, only to see his shot go wide of goal.

For all City’s hard-work the second goal finally came and it was Enobakhare who picked out Kelly in the box for the captain to head home his and the Sky Blues second of the game.

The Sky Blues Under-23s top scorer and man in form, Fabio Tavares then got involved in the scoring, latching on to a loose pass at the back and beat the ‘keeper to make it 3-0.

The game nearly had it’s fourth goal and it was almost a hat-trick for Kelly, as he attempted an audacious lob from the half-way line, which had the ‘keeper scrambling, but his shot landed on top of the netting.
