VACANCY: Kickstart - SBitC Marketing & Communications Assistant

Sky Blues in the Community have a Marketing and Communications Assistant position as part of the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.

The Kickstart Scheme will provide  6-month job placement to 16-24 year olds, who are claiming Universal Credit, and are at risk of long term unemployment.

To apply for this role, you must be receiving universal credit, aged between 16 – 24 and must apply through your work coach.

The placement will be for a minimum of 25 hours a week paid at the national minimum wage level. This role will be in the form of a work placement, with the aim to help young people build up their skills and experience levels, and be a stepping stone into further employment. 

The Marketing and Communications Assistant’s main role will be to support both Sky Blues in the Community’s  marketing and communications departments in driving content, media and digital initiatives across multiple platforms to drive awareness, engagement and positive perception. This includes supporting the implementation of the Marketing Strategy, offering marketing support to partners, delivering a clear communications plan, delivery of events and raising awareness of Sky Blues in the Community’s programmes through local, regional and national media and social media.

The Marketing and Communications Assistant will report directly to the Marketing and Communications Officer, with a particular focus on digital activity and the implementation of the agreed content and communications plan for the charity. This will also include support for the wider communications department across the charity with its digital, social media and written publications.

Key responsibilities for the role will include, but not limited to:

  • Input into the programme Marketing plans to support recruitment and raise awareness.
  • Produce and collect content that can be used to market programmes in line with the marketing strategy. This includes:-video, images and case studies.
  • Assist in creating promotional materials including flyers, marketing copy, web articles etc.
  • Support key events throughout the year
  • Evaluate and record all marketing activity and submit reports.
  • Attend meetings and conferences and be a positive representative for us both internally and externally.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the line manager.
  • Regional travel with occasional national, with potential for some evening and weekend working.
  • A suitable home office with broadband access.

This role is subject to a criminal records check.

Qualifications & Skills: 


  • GCSE in Maths and English (Grade C / 4 or above)
  • A good level of IT literacy, and competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Knowledge & Experience 


  • Experience of using a variety of IT packages such as outlook, excel and word.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, telephone and interpersonal skills.


  • Marketing theory within educational background.
  • Practical marketing experience in a previous role or work experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIN)
  • Passion for photography/videography and creative media
  • Knowledge of creative programmes such as video editing or design


  • To have due regard for safeguarding and child protection policies, including the welfare of children and young people
  • All new employees are subject to DBS checks, with our safeguarding officer.

Other Requirements:


  • A willingness to learn and develop as an individual, through CPD (essential)
  • A passion for the work of Sky Blues in the Community and CCFC


  • To hold a valid and up to date driving licence

Number of hours per week: 25

Working pattern/contracted hours:

Working days can be flexible, it is expected that there will be the opportunity for remote working.

Hourly rate of pay: In line with current levels of minimum wage

Details of employability support:

Kickstart participants will receive the same level of support as any other member of staff at Sky Blues in the Community. This will include:

  • Weekly meetings with the Kickstart Manager, looking at areas the individual will want to develop and improve.
  • CPD undertaken as a mandatory element, including Safeguarding, but also awards and qualifications linked to the sector.
  • Appraisal after 3 months
  • Employability skills and job readiness coaching
  • Mentor sessions
  • Induction

If the role continues after the 6 month placement, the individual will receive a guaranteed interview.
