NEWS: RIP Brian Nicholas

14 October 2021

Coventry City are saddened to learn of the death of former player Brian Nicholas.

Brian sadly passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 88.

Welsh-born but capped by England Schoolboys after moving aged 4, before joining City he had spells at Queens Park Rangers and Chelsea.

Wing-half Brian then made the move to Highfield Road in 1958 after being signed by Billy Frith.

He played 121 games for the Bantams and was an important part of the side that won promotion from Division Four in 1959.

Described as a steady, skilled and effective defender, Nicholas left for Rugby Town in 1962 followed by a spell as player-manager at Hinckley Town.

After retirement from playing, Brian would work at the Massey Ferguson factory in Coventry and would be a regular at Sky Blues matches, including in recent years alongside fellow former players in the lounges and at Legends Days.

Our condolences are with Brian’s family and friends at this sad time.
