LOAN WATCH: Will Bapaga nets in rout

Youngster among three loanees in action...

4 October 2021

We take a look at how the players currently away from the Sky Blues have got on last Saturday.

There was an enjoyable afternoon for Will Bapaga in the National League this weekend as his Grimsby Town side thrashed Dover Athletic 6-0 at Blundell Park to send them top of the league.

Bapaga started left wing and won his side two first half penalties as well as caping of a brilliant individual display by bagging his first professional goal in the 45th minute to put the Mariners 4-0 up after earlier strikes from Luke Waterfall, John McAtee and Ryan Taylor, netting the second penalty, had put them in a commanding position.

Taylor managed to grab his second in first half stoppage time before Waterfall scored his third of the season to wrap up the result.

In Sky Bet League Two, Danny Cashman’s Rochdale lost 2-0 away to Bradford City with the City loanee keeping his place in the starting XI for a fourth consecutive game, playing on the right of a forward three.

The home side took the lead after 37 minutes through Alex Gilliead before Cashman was unlucky not to equalise with a couple of efforts, with the second of those hitting the side net as his side looked for a leveller.

However the Bantams would double their lead with fifteen minutes remaining when Andy Cook scored the penalty after Levi Sutton was felled by Eoghan O’Connell. The result leaves Dale 16th in the League Two table, however they are only three points off the play offs.

North of the border Jack Burroughs got another 90 minutes under his belt, making his fifth appearance of the season, in Ross County’s 1-0 defeat at Dundee United.

The hosts took the lead at Tannadice after 31 minutes through Ilmari Niskanen but Malky Mackay’s side pushed for an equaliser in the second half and were unfortunate not to come away with a point in the end.

Meanwhile, ‘keeper Tom Billson is at Sky Blue Lodge continuing his recovery from the knee injury he suffered out on loan at Scunthorpe United on the opening day of the season.
