Ahead of City’s clash with Russell Martin’s Swansea City at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night, we take a trip down memory lane and remember a famous victory against our opponents…
This week’s edition takes us back to October 1981 when the Sky Blues welcomed recently promoted but top of the table Swansea to Highfield Road.
City had lost at Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest the previous week and were looking for a response against John Toshack’s high flying side with the home side breaking the deadlock in the 37th minute before quickly doubling the lead two minutes later.
Dave Sexton’s team seemingly made the game safe with a third in the 53rd minute before the Welsh side pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining, however the Sky Blues held on to the delight of the majority of the 14,033 crowd with City jumping up to 11th as the Swans were knocked off top.
However, what we want to know is how well do you remember the Sky Blues side from that day? Can you name the starting eleven and the substitutes?
