Ahead of City’s clash with Slavisa Jokanovic’s Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in the Sky Bet Championship this Saturday, we take a trip down memory lane and remember a past victory against our opponents…
This week’s edition takes us back to August 2002 when the Sky Blues welcomed Neil Warnock’s side to Highfield Road for the opening game of the season.
The visitors took the lead when Blades forward Carl Asaba turned on the edge of box and fired into the far corner.
15 minutes into the game City were forced into a substitution when a certain Belgian winger had to be replaced after he picked up an injury with a young homegrown talent replacing him.
And one minute later the Sky Blues brought themselves back on level terms after the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line after a goalmouth scramble from a corner.
The aforementioned homegrown talent then put City ahead five minutes before the break, firing in a shot with his left foot.
The side from South Yorkshire piled on the pressure in the second half with the Sky Blues’ man between the sticks pulling off three big saves from first former City man Peter Ndlovu then Shaun Murphy before an acrobatic stop to deny Michael Brown as the Sky Blues got off to a winning start to the campaign!
However, what we want to know is how well do you remember the Sky Blues side from that day, can you name the starting eleven and the substitutes?
