The Sky Blues Under-23s ended their Professional Development League with three points against Colchester United.
City controlled proceedings from the off and it was goals from Jordan Young and Will Bapaga which ensured Colchester's late goal would be nothing more than a consolation.
The Sky Blues started on the front-foot, in difficult weather conditions, and they awarded a spot-kick after just over 10 minutes, when Joe Newton was brought down in the area.
Young stepped up to take the penalty in Jonny Ngandu's absence and he confidently slotted the ball down the middle to put City 1-0 up.
Just four minutes later and the Sky Blues doubled their lead when Fabio Tavares cut the ball back for Will Bapaga and he made it 2-0.
With 23 minutes on the clock, Tom Billson who captained City for the day, made a superb save to deny the Colchester striker.
The Sky Blues looked to grab a third before the break and it was the visitors 'keeper who ensured that didn't happen, as he denied Jordan Young from grabbing his second.
HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 2-0 Colchester United
After the break it was more of the same and it was Young again who continued to cause the visitors problems and he cut the ball back for Bapaga and he was denied by another good save.
Newton, who won the penalty in the first half, was looking for a second in as many games, but he was denied by a splendid stop.
Fabio Tavares was the next City player to get involved in the action and he went on a superb run, but when it came to pulling the trigger, he watched on as his shot was saved.
With ten minutes remaining, Colchester did pull one back with a finish from close range, but it came too late and Luke Tisdale's side secured all three points.
