NEWS: RIP - Chris Chilton

20 May 2021

Coventry City are saddened to learn of the death of former striker Chris Chilton.

Chris passed away overnight at the age of 77, following a period of ill health.

Chilton played 33 games for the Sky Blues, scoring 5 goals. He made the move to Highfield Road in August 1971, Noel Cantwell having paid £91k for the striker.

He was forced to retire at the end of his only season with the Sky Blues due to a back injury.

Cantwell swooped for the striker after his incredible 222 goals in 477 appearances for hometown club Hull City between 1960 and 1971, feats which make him still The Tigers record goal scorer of all time.

Following a spell playing in South Africa after leaving Highfield Road, Chilton returned to Hull on the coaching staff in the 70s and 80s.

Our condolences are with Chris' family, friends and former clubs.
