NEWS: George Burroughs offered first professional contract!

21 May 2021

Coventry City are delighted to confirm that George Burroughs has been offered his first professional deal with the Sky Blues!

The 18-year-old centre half has progressed through the Sky Blues Academy, signing as an Under 9s player, and will now link up with the Under 23s side at Ryton.

Throughout his scholarship at the Alan Higgs Centre he has played predominantly as a central defender and has captained the Under 18s team through the majority of the past two years.

He has shown great resilience over the past seasons and developed numerous aspects of his game. Like his brother Jack, who is already in the City set up at Ryton, he is an avid Sky Blues fan and trains and plays with a real passion for the Club.

George has also been involved in the Scotland Youth Set Up.

All the staff at the Academy are proud of George’s achievement so far and encourage him to continue to push and develop as he joins the Under 23s squad, with his professional contract commencing from 1st July 2021.

Dan Bolas, Academy Manager at Coventry City, said:

“Signing a professional contract is a great achievement for George and great credit goes to George for this achievement, and also to his family for the commitment and determination they have shown through their duration of time at the Club in supporting George.

“Whilst we are always looking for the players to continue to develop and improve, it is important to acknowledge the successes of young players who have developed through their time at the Academy and progressed to earning their first professional contract, and all of us at the Academy wish George the very best in the next stage of his journey with the Club.”
