Coventry City and Sky Blues in the Community are supporting NHS Blood and Transplant, who are looking for healthy 18–65-year-old males to consider making a Plasma donation, this is because they are more likely than woman to have the blood plasma volumes and larger vein sizes needed.
Thousands of patients rely on immunoglobulin medicines for short-term or lifelong diseases and genetic disorders.
There is a global supply shortage due to rising demand. Up until now, the UK has depended on imports of blood plasma from other countries – mainly the USA.
After a 20 year pause Plasma collected in England will be used to manufacture medicines to treat NHS patients, visit www.blood.uk/plasma for further information or call 0300 123 23 23 to make an appointment.
NHS Blood and Transplant are taking donations at 14 donor centres around England, including the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
