COMMUNITY: SBitC to start new social football sessions!

4 March 2021

Sky Blues in the Community now have 7 social football sessions planned for 2021 once we get the green light to return.

We have sessions planned which will hopefully cater for anyone who wants to get back into playing football, make new friends or just help stay active. We have sessions with no age restrictions from 11 a side to 7 a side.

Then we have specific sessions for those either over 40 or over 50. For the over 50’s we have sessions which allow running to a slower version in our Walking Football sessions, so no matter what your current fitness levels there should be a session to suit you all.

One of our main aims of Social Football is to make sure we help create an environment where players feel relaxed and enjoy attending, without any pressure or worries about making mistakes. We don’t just look at the football side of things, we see the social side just as important!

Once restrictions allow us, we encourage all players to arrive prior to the session and stay after to have a catch up over a cup of tea and a biscuit. For the sessions that have been running for a while it’s great to see all the friendships that have formed.

These sessions are £5.00 per week to attend, which includes a minimum of an hour football as well as a drink and refreshments after.

When spectators are allowed back to stadiums, all participants will also receive vouchers throughout the season to attend some of our CCFC games. A lot of our current social football players are massive Coventry City fans already and it is great for them to attend games all together. Those that are not, we can hopefully help generate more Sky-Blue fans coming through!

In addition to these sessions, we also have a weekly Macmillan Cancer Support Walking Football Session which is open to anyone who is either going through or been through Cancer. These sessions were set up with the support of one of our current Walking Footballers and now volunteer for SBitC - Ron Banister who battled through Cancer himself. It is great for people to meet others who have been through or going through similar experiences like this, which is why these sessions are extremely important to us. The sessions are completely FREE of charge to attend.
