NEWS: Jack Burroughs starts as Scotland Under 21s win

8 June 2021

Coventry City's Jack Burroughs started as Scotland Under 21s ran out 3-2 winners against Northern Ireland on Saturday afternoon.

The two sides met earlier this week with Northern Ireland running out 2-1 winners and the second game of the double-header saw Scotland emerge victorious, with Burroughs starting the game at right-back and playing the full 90 minutes.

Jack made a decisive intervention early on - Keeper Archie Mair produced a fine early reaction save before Burroughs bravely blocked Sean Stewart’s rebound.

Liverpool’s Tom Clayton opened the scoring after 22 minutes for Scotland, before Northern Ireland levelled things up just a few minutes later through Celtic’s Ben Wylie.

Rangers's Ben Williamson put Scotland back in front before the break, but in the second half Northern Ireland's Ryan Waide equalised. With eight minutes remaining, Glenn Middleton of Rangers converted from the spot to give Scotland a 3-2 win.

This was Jack Burroughs's second game for Scotland Under 21s, having made his debut at Under 21 level earlier in the week.
