Coventry City Under 23s pre-season game against Coventry Sphinx on Saturday afternoon has been postponed.
The postponement is due to further COVID-19 cases affecting the Sky Blues playing squad, across first-team, Under 23s and Under 18s age groups.
We can confirm that the first-team fixture against Cheltenham Town on Saturday will go ahead as scheduled.
We apologise to Coventry Sphinx and their supporters for the inconvenience cause and hope to re-arrange the friendly during pre-season.
Coventry City Chief Executive Dave Boddy said:
“It is with regret that we have had to postpone Saturday’s Under 23s game against Coventry Sphinx.
“Unfortunately the increase in cases across the country is having an effect on football, both here and at other clubs.
“We worked incredibly hard last season to protect the playing squad and staff against contracting COVID but, as I said previously, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to do that as Government restrictions are lifted.
“We wish Coventry Sphinx all the best, thank them for their understanding and look forward to playing them soon.”
